Great Little Genny

I bought one of these for the cloudy days whilst off grid camping and solar not so good, it works great, we use it to charge 2 camper trailers with 200AMP/HR batteries each, plus the starlink system for our NRL games whilst in the bush. Just did its first oil change after the run in period, or slightly longer to be fair, using a good quality Penrite small engine oil to give it the best shot at longevity, oil was a bit darker than straw colored but nothing alarming. Be careful taking off the side covers and you wont have a problem here, they are screws designed to hold the covers on, not required to be tightened like they are holding the wing on an Aircraft!! Highly recommend this little unit, goes easily for 6 hours running above setup on ECO setting, starts first, or second pull if you forget to turn the switch on first time :) very happy campers here.

Gentrax generator

Used mine a few times and now has a fuel leak from somewhere, while it's running. I need to track this leak down and fix it. Any ideas?

Gentrax 1.2kw generator

Purchased this item 60 days ago, 50hours use so far approx.

Used for camping and charging a 40amp lithium battery charger. It has been great for it's purpose. Runs for at least 4-6 hours underload on a tank of petrol. No trouble so far. Starts first or 2nd pull everytime. Im running semi synthetic 10w30 penrite small engine oil, have changed the oil every 20 hours use, it holds around 300ml of oil.

While underload the decibels are measured directly next to the genie and read 66db.

I would buy this genie again, happy with it's performance and petrol use, it's quite compared to most genies and a lot cheaper than a Honda or Yamaha.

When I'm running larger appliances I run the battery charger from the genie into my 400amp battery solar setup to avoid fast battery drain on overcast days.

Will a portable generator backfeed the power lines?

Backfeeding refers to the tying of a portable generator directly to a household's electrical panel instead of using a transfer switch. This is NOT recommended as it can be dangerous and introduces electrocution hazard.

Can I place my generator inside if I vent the exhaust out to an outdoor area?

No. It's not recommended to use any portable generator indoors. Also, when using a generator outdoors, it should be at least 20 feet away from you.

Should I use a fuel stabilizer?

Fuel stabilisers are used to extend the life of your fuel, keeping it fresh for longer. With the type of fuel used in Gentrax generators, this is no longer needed.

Can I use this generator in a National Park?

Generally, generators below 65dB are allowed in parks as they are considered quiet generators. However, it's still best to check with the relevant agency managing the national parks that you want to visit in case of additional requirements.
