Battery prices vary depending on the type, application, and additional features. There are several kinds of these in the camping field alone, and they are known to take up a huge chunk of your camping expenses. If you're a first-time buyer of outdoor batteries, here is an idea of how much each type usually costs.

Lead-acid batteries: These are the cheapest batteries in the market, retailing for less than a hundred dollars to $200. They're also the oldest type of camping battery pack and while they have established a name for many years now, lead-acid batteries are not nearly as efficient as the newer version of batteries.

Gel batteries: Gel batteries cost between $100 to $200. These batteries are leak-proof and require less maintenance. They also operate in extreme temperatures although, in terms of overall performance, other batteries generally do better.

AGM batteries: Australia's most popular camping batteries cost around $200 to $350. They're a top choice because of their lighter weight, longer lifespan, and higher power output compared to conventional batteries. AGM batteries are also vibration-resistant, although one of their biggest cons is their sensitivity to overcharging.

Lithium batteries (LiFEPO4): Lithium iron phosphate batteries are priced between $500 to $2,000 depending on how big it is. They're significantly more expensive than the other battery types but are considered one of the best ones in the market for their built-in battery management system that ensures superior performance and increased safety. Take note that this type of lithium battery is not the same as lithium-ion batteries performance and efficiency-wise.

Solar batteries: Now these ones really cost a lot and tend to be larger. They range from $3,000 to $8,000 and are mostly used as a house battery or battery backup. A famous example of this would be the Tesla Powerwall. There are portable versions of these too, which are usually incorporated in caravan battery setups along with a set of solar panels.

Are Cheap Lithium Batteries Good?

Among all batteries mentioned, lithium batteries have been gaining traction the most, especially LiFEPO4. The only downside of it is the cost, which is why campers are usually looking for cheap lithium batteries. There are battery shops that offer more affordable lithium batteries but of course, the question surrounding their quality always exists. So, are discount batteries any good? The risk of buying them is always there and most of the time, cheaper batteries are recommended for powering less demanding and less sensitive appliances. However, there are some outlets that do offer quality batteries at a reduced price. Before going through your purchase, it's always a good idea if you can check your provider's history, their product reviews, and warranty offers as these are clear indications of how reliable their products are.

Are Portable Batteries Worth it?

If you're an avid camper or you have an off-grid cottage, you'll definitely be able to maximise your portable battery pack. One way to make sure that your batteries last is by using them every now and then, so if you keep them in store for some time, there's a possibility that you will see a decline the next time you use them. If you're going to use it as backup power, you'd make the most out of a portable battery if you live in an area prone to power outages.

When it comes to usual, small-sized batteries for powering gadgets and electronic devices, you can get them at your usual stores like Amazon or Costco.
